Part Two of My Very Personal Connection: The Death's of Andrea and Brock Damude
Part Two: The Kit494 Connection
I think the first question that really rattled me was that it hadn't been reported anywhere that either Andrea or Brock had been reported missing by Brett. In many of the articles it had been stated that they had left their home on Friday and were travelling only 5 hours away.
I know that if my wife and infant son had left on a road trip 5 hours away and had not called me to at least let me know they'd arrived safely, I would be deeply concerned and calling everyone to see if they'd made it ok. That was, seemingly, not the case with Brett.
Another major question that I had was that it had been rumored (through a deleted post on unsolvedcanada.ca) that her car had been packed with more clothes than would be needed for a weekend trip. The way it was made to seem was that it had all the appearances of Andrea leaving Brett and she'd packed as though she would be staying with her family for more than just a weekend. Was Andrea really leaving Brett? Was her car packed with enough clothes to get herself and Brock by for more than just a weekend?
While researching this case I found a thread on unsolvedcanada.ca where a person posting under the name Kit494 made several posts in a comment thread on the case (Fig 1a, Fig 1b, Fig 1c). Those comments had been deleted before I could read them however, several people replied to this person and I was able to glean a little bit of information from those replies. It does appear as though they had intended to move back to the area.
There was also mention of a broken nose and no fingerprints noted on the interior trunk.
The designation of Murder/Suicide had been made based on the fact that the emergency trunk latch placed on the interior of the cars trunk worked, however less than a month after the death's but well before the final findings of the case were evaluated and decided, the car was released from Police evidence and the family was allowed to destroy it. Regardless of determination, that vehicle was the crime scene and a large piece of evidence. I feel as though allowing that car to be destroyed so soon after the deaths was a mistake on the part of Durham Regional Police.
Sadly, we will never know what other secrets the interior of that trunk held.
In the third, and final installment of this blog series, I will speak about my personal feelings, communications made to other friends of Andrea, and my own personal alleged reconstruction of the crime.
